Boardwalk Quilt for Hubby

By Anna - March 28, 2022

Another quilt I expected to make for Christmas, but got sidelined and didn't finish until almost April. This time I was making a quilt for my husband. The fabric line is, "At the Lake" By Tara Reid. The fabric was purchased from Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton, MO back in July 2021.

The quilt ended up being much bigger than I was thinking it would be and really made me have to work hard to get it completed. I presented it to my husband before his birthday in April.

The fabric line had a fabric panel that I used to construct the backing. I learned a few things while doing this using a pieced backing that I will want to be more careful of in the future. I was happy with the way this turned out and hope to make more in this pattern, but maybe cut it down as it does not need to be this long if using for a throw (unless the person you are making it for is 7 foot tall, then you might need it this tall)!

For the quilting part, I just done a free motion meander style as it seemed to be much easier than using the rulers I used in the last quilt I done.

Ready to add the binding

The panel was incorporated into the backing, which turned out much better than I expected although I wanted the panel higher up on the back, but didn't line up the backing correctly with the top to make that happen.

Close up of the fabric line.

This pic was taking before I added the binding. I ended up putting the label in the side and sewing into the binding on one edge and then hand sewing around the other three edges to keep the label in place. I liked this method better than what I done on my Mom's quilt.
