The Hexaround Quilt pattern is featured on Material Girls Quilt website. Being a hexie fan, I knew I wanted to try this pattern. She made it seem so easy when she done a tutorial on YouTube.

Somewhere along the way I purchased a jelly roll of the beautiful Snowkissed by Sweetwater fabric line and eventually the pattern and fabric came together to create a beautiful quilt to be displayed at Christmas time. The pattern only called for 2 jelly rolls, but I ended up adding a border to mine. I bought 1 1/2 yards of Splash the Lodge yardage for the border and 1 yard of the Multicolored CrissCross yardage for my binding. 

This quilt top still needs to be quilted, but I wanted to go ahead and share because of how cute it turned out.

Each year there is a Missouri Shop Hop in the months of August and September. This year there were 70 shops throughout the state that participated. At each shop, you would get a stamp for your passport and a 5" square fabric that was created just for that location. 

Once the shop hop was over, you have a certain number of days to mail in your passport to have you name submitted into drawings for each region that you complete. If you complete the entire state, you also get your name entered into a drawing for some really good grand prizes.

I had finished one region, so I also received a block for the completed region. 

Each shop created different quilts that you could replicate or create your own design using the shop blocks that you received. Each year has a a different theme and a special fabric collection is created to match theme, which is great because you can design a different quilt each year. Each shop will carry this fabric, but sometimes it goes real fast, so don't wait until the last week to buy or you might miss out on finding any still available.

My plan is to create a design that will incorporate all of my 13 shop blocks as well as my regional block. It was a fun experience in the fact that I got to see parts of the state that I had never seen and probably will never see again.

This has been one of my biggest challenges on my quilting journey, but it is worth it, as these weiners are in memory of my 4 lost babies: Duchess; her son, Duke; Hollywood (who was a biter) and Annabelle (named after me) and in honor of the two I still have in my life today, Oscar and Harley.

Not sure when I will feel comfortable enough to quilt this top, but hopefully sooner than later. Final pic will post once I complete final process.

The pattern has a template to add glasses, but I chose not to do that.

The final 3. There were many times when I didn't think I would ever finish these, but the blocks are now complete. Two more steps - connect the blocks and then quilt it.

DOG #13

Each year in Missouri from April to October they do what is called the Hwy 36 Quilt Trail. This year there were 11 different stores that participated and I was determined to visit all 11. Back in May I went on a weekend trip and visited 7 shops, then completed the remaining 4 in October.

There is always a different theme each year and each shop designs a block to go with that theme. You can either get the pattern for free and/or purchase a block kit which would contain the pattern.  This year the theme was a barn quilt and the finished quilt was to look exactly like a barn. Along with each shops block design, a finishing kit is also available for purchase that provides an overall pattern to assemble the entire quilt top. 

There is a contest where you can submit your finished quilt top. I had the intention of entering, but it just didn’t work out for me to enter the contest. I finished the quilt top and was proud of how it turned out.

I started assembling my blocks in November and finished the entire quilt top in the last couple days. Since the quilt is a barn, I added a cat to the loft as every barn has a barn cat. I used the cat block from Lori Holt’s Farm Girl Vintage II book and used some of my Lori Holt scraps.

During the months of September and October each year, the state of Missouri does a Shop Hop. While participating this year I landed at a shop that had a Pokémon quilt hanging on the wall. I have a grandson who is a big fam and the shop had only 1 kit left, so of course I bought it. The name of the shop was Hueffmeiers Fine Pines Quilt Shop in Brookfield, MO.

There hardest part was determining how I wanted the layout to be. I spent more time on that than actually sewing it. I’m not very good at freehand quilting on the longarm so I wasn’t really pleased with that part of it, but I knew my grandson would love it regardless of how the quilting looked.

I made a special label just for him and this will be part of his Christmas presents.

I love making special items for my grandchildren. As soon as I saw this pattern for the Patchwork Duffle Bag I knew I would be making several of these. While on my quilt trail for the Missouri Shop Hop I visited a store in Hannibal that I absolutely fell in love with. It was called Hickory Stick Quilt Shop.

I new I wanted to make this bag for my oldest granddaughter, but wanted to find a fabric that wasn't too girly and something that she might still like for a few years so she would get plenty of use out of it. My target completion was to finish by Christmas, but because I was spending Thanksgiving with my family, I had to have it done by then as we would celebrate Christmas early so that I could see them open their presents in person as opposed through a screen on a phone.

The fabric line used for this project is called,  EMMA, by Sherri & Chelsi for Moda Fabrics. I used the same fabric line for the patchwork as well as the handles and the lining. I used my accuquilt to cut perfect 2 1/2" squares from my layer cake, which then had to be sewn into rows, which were then attached to complete the body of the bag. The end pieces were 3x4 rows and a 3x3 row, which was used to create pockets on each end. Once all was complete, I added a Nana made label to finish it off. I also purchased the fabric to make myself one, but who knows when that will be completed.

The first block was called Buzzy Bee and I completed it today. This project will take 32 weeks plus in order to complete as I will usually stick to the timeline and only do what was scheduled for the week. It helps to keep me motivated to complete the quilt and not get aggravated if I go ahead and do a block wrong because I didn't wait for directions on how its supposed to be completed.

There was a fat quarter bundle designed to use for this project or you could use your scraps, hence the name, Scrappiness is Happiness. I purchased the fat quarter from the Fat Quarter Shop as I wanted to keep working on my Lori Holt collection and was hoping some of the older designs would be included. 

At the end of the 32 weeks, you would sew your blocks into rows and then those rows would be sewn together until you completed the entire quilt.
