This is another simple quilt that can be done by a beginner and I definitely still feel like a beginner in this process of quilting. This is also another quilt that the top was finished a long time ago, July 2022 to be exact, but didn't get quilted until June 2023.
It takes me so long to quilt them because I don't have the skills to do freehand quilting and I'm still learning to use the Pro-Stitcher lite that I bought for my Moxie.
I couldn't decide on a pattern, which is another area that I have trouble in when it comes to quilting a quilt, what pattern to use to accentuate the quilt and make things stand out. Because of that, I ended up using several different patterns on this quilt to practice on.
The reason I wanted to try this pattern was because I had seen it on the Missouri Star Quilt page on YouTube where Jenny Doan was demonstrating how to make this using a layer cake. My layer cake was Sew Little Time by Danielle Leone (10 Karot Crystals by Wilmington). I purchased 1 yard of the Light Green Quilting Circle and Blue Ribbons & Bows to use for the border and binding. As for the backing, I pulled from my stash and just used a solid navy blue, 108" wideback.
To complete this quilt, cut a 3 1/2" strip from each piece in the layer cake. Once cut, turn the pile over, and pull one from the pile you just cut and one from the remaining pile, sew together, press seams. Once you sew that together, turn it and cut in half, turn over 1 pile and pull from each pile and sew together. You end up sewing the blocks together to create a small piece on top of one side and a small piece on the bottom of the other piece.
Once the blocks are sewn, sew together to create rows, then sew rows together creating 6 blocks across x 7 blocks down. Attach border...quilt....bind....and your done.
Don't forget to press your seams open as you go.
