I created this quilt to use as a way to learn how to quilt on a long arm machine at my local quilt shop. Instead of going to the local shop, I decided to just buy a longarm machine and learn to do it myself so I could quilt all of my quilts instead of sending them out to be done by someone else.
I chose a charm pack and sewed 7 across and 9 down. Once complete I added a 3 inch border and then it was ready for the longarmer. It took several days for me to finish as standing for long periods of time creates a lot of health issues for me. The fabric is designed by Kaye England for Wilmington Prints called Indigo Garden. The backing is called Multi Repeating Stripe. The binding is Dark Denim Circle Weave and the Charm Pack is 5 Karot Crystals.
I used a ruler to do the straight stitches. There are some mistakes on this as it is hard to keep the ruler straight and in areas where I had to go over what I had already done didn’t always match up. On the colored squares I was just going to stitch in the ditch, but that didn’t seem to work so I started to sew close to the edge. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to work out to great either and I have mistakes all over the place, but that's okay because finished is better than perfect. For the white squares I just chose whatever design that I had been practicing to fill in each square.
I know I have so much to learn, but I am willing to put the time and effort in to do it right. Looking forward to starting the next one.
