I've really been wanting to try my hand at more FPP (foundation paper piecing), so I joined a group call The Paper Piecers, hosted by Liza Taylor. One of the first patterns I got when joining was of a hummingbird. I am a big fan of these little birds, so I was anxious to get started on this project. The pattern comes in 4 different sizes, 3"x3", 5"x5", 7"x7" & 10"x10". I chose to make a 7" size this first time. My fabrics were all from my stash of solids from where I made my first quilt.
You can chose how you want to complete your piece. Some people make it into a pillow, a wall quilt or other endless ideas. I chose to make mine into a wall quilt and bind the edges. I didn't do any quilting on it as it didn't appear to need that as I just wanted to showcase the hummingbird. My binding doesn't look too good here in this pic, but hanging on the wall in my quilt room, it looks pretty good. At least by my standards.
The next time I make this pattern, I want to make the 10" size to see how it turns out and make a pillow to put in my office on the daybed, so I can admire it all day.
