Flutter Quilt

By Anna - January 12, 2024

As soon as I saw this pattern, I knew this was the quilt I had to make for daughter number 1, (number 2 got hers back in December). Courtney has always loved butterflies and has several dust collectors of such that she has received over the years.

I asked if she preferred pink or blue before deciding on the backing to get as I wanted to make sure it would be something she would like and hopefully use.

This pattern is called Flutter and is by Lella Boutique designer Vanessa Goertzen. The fabrics used are called Lovestruck by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. The background is a Moda Bella Solid, Etchings Slate. I usually use white backgrounds in my quilts, but the pattern showed the darker background option and it really spoke to me, so I went with it. In the end, I'm glad I did as I think it turned out beautiful.

I started prepping my fabrics right after Christmas. This is my first completed butterfly block.

This is the competed quilt blocks on my wall display so I can determine my layout and decide if I want to move some of the butterflies around. I finally had to tell myself, "enough is enough,." Just decide and go with it.

All the blocks sewn together. Now it's time to get it quilted on Miss Moxie.

After being quilted and adding the binding...

The back...

A couple close ups of the quilting. I went with a butterfly pattern. It looks like they are flying through the air.

A couple more...

I can't do a quilt without adding a special label. Have to get better adding the binding. I'm planning a few mini quilts to practice on so I can get better at this technique and find the best way for adding binding for me.

Because I was gifting to my daughter, I washed it to give it that quilty, crinkly look and feel.

I hope my daughter will enjoy cuddling up in her new quilt and know that momma made it with lots of blood, sweat and tears. I actually cut my index finger, left hand while cutting fabrics for next project while this one was on Miss Moxie.

Now its time to move on to the next project.

Happy Quilting!
