The Quilted Scarecrow - Part 5

By Anna - July 19, 2024

At this point I have done several more blocks in this series as I really want to get this quilt finished. I have 3 others I am in the process of at different stages and I just need to finish this one so I can devote more time to the others.

In my last post on the series for this quilt, I had said next up was the Garden Gloves Blocks and Garden Glove Thumbs Blocks. I am happy to report that I completed those around the second of July and moved on to bigger and better blocks.

After the gloves and thumbs, it was time to do the sleeves and bandana. Those were easy enough to complete and I had them done around the 14th of the month. I had to redo my design board to accommodate for the scarecrows height as I continue to build him as he is very tall.

At this point, it was time to move on to the next pieces of the overalls. They were broken up into several blocks, including Overalls Top and Pocket block, Overalls Waist Block,  and the Overalls Leg Block, which were all completed by the 14th.

Next up would be the Boots block because you can't have a scarecrow without shoes.

I think the shoes look spiffy!!!

Next up is the Crow Block, which I completed the same day as the shoes on the 16th.

The entire thing is coming together really good and I am very pleased with my work so far including the timeline. There is a sew along with this through Fat Quarter Shop with Kimberly Jolly, but it goes until 2025 and I don't want to wait that long to finish this quilt as I want to hang it for the fall season.

I am now in the middle of the Pumpkin Block and after that, all I have left block wise is the Milkcan Block and Rake Block at which point all I will have to do is complete the assembly. Oh wait I forgot I have to remake the 30 Tiny Leaf Blocks that I messed up on. I told you in Part 3 or 4 that I had put them together wrong and had to wait until I was done with everything else to make sure I would have enough fabric to redo them all. Well I will definitely have enough fabric left over.

My plan is to finish all the blocks over the weekend and then put it all together, hoping to wrap up by the end of the month, if not by EOM, then hopefully by first weekend in August.

Happy Quilting!
