In my last post, I mentioned that I hoped to have this quilt completed by the first weekend in August. I didn't quiet make that, but I am happy to say I completed it yesterday!
If you want to see all the post in regards to the Quilted Scarecrow, you can either search in the search box using the keyword scarecrow or you can look in the column to your right under the blog archive section and click on the one for The Quilted Scarecrow.
On the last post I was was in the middle of the Pumpkin Block and had the Milkcan and Rake block to go before I could finish the assembly process.
Here are the finished blocks:
I also had to redo the Tiny Leaf Blocks as I had assembled them all incorrectly the first time, so all 30 of these had to be remade. Don't ask how I done all 30 wrong before realizing my mistake.
The Tiny Leaves |
Once the leaves were redone, it was time to do a layout and start assembling each section with background fabric until complete. I have also added the rake handle at the point.
At this point I have put all of the top section together as well as the left side of the rake. His eyes were loosely added, so at this point they were removed and once he is quilted they will be added back.
Still need to add the background to the far right where the leaves are.
Once the far right leaves were completed, the only thing left to do was sew all the block sections together and then add the borders.
I am so happy to see this quilt top complete. Unfortunately, I am still waiting to receive the backing as I ordered it from Fat Quarter Shop as a preorder and they have yet to fulfil the order. They are probably not in a hurry since this is a sew along they don't plan to complete until next year, but I want this done so I can enjoy it for the Fall season this year. I might have to choose a different backing fabric as I want this hung in September on my wall in my living room.
Here are several shots of the final quilt top.
I know there are mistakes, but that's what makes it one of a kind and I'm okay with my mistakes. One thing I have learned since I started quilting is that if I always look for perfection, I will never finish a quilt. The old saying goes, "finished is better than perfect" and that has definitely been my quilting motto.
I think I'll use a leave design for the quilt pattern as I have been unable to find anything that resembles hay. I just want it to look like fall.
Happy Quilting!
